It’s My Look

Looking back at my time in San Antonio, I can’t help but feel like I never really fit in anywhere. I made plenty of friends and some friends I will stay close with all my life. I never really found a group I did well with. I went out with plenty of groups and had a great time, but I never had a go-to group of friends for weekends. That’s mostly my fault though. There was no shortage of friendly people here. I spent time with several groups of people I would have been happy to be a part of. I just never…did.

One of my biggest regrets here in San Antonio is not really letting my personality shine to everyone. I know WHY I did that, but I don’t want to do it anymore. Dallas is a great opportunity for me to not only return home but return home as a grown-up me. That could mean displaying life lessons and a new-found maturity or… a makeover! I don’t know about you, but I’ll take any excuse for a makeover.

Here is my thought. I think I’ll stick with my usual somewhat neutral makeup. I usually wear shimmery neutrals with black eyeliner and mascara and a pink or a sheer natural red on my lips. My fashion wardrobe is a major work in progress. I’m thinking I need to return to my roots. My hair (Get it! It’s a PUN!). I love my hair. Not to brag, but I have the best hair in San Antonio and I love to show it off. I have approximately a million hair accessories and I’m ready to bring them back.

Without further ado (and tangents) here’s my grown-up hair accessories wish list with insightful comments on each image! Click on an image to get the gallery started.

** I feel like I should add that I have very curly, long hair.**

I dare you to look at the last image without doing this.

South Whimsy

We’re going to Dallas! Marc got in to UT Southwestern and he’s starting his surgical residency soon. We’re excited to be closer to family, but there is so much to do! Right now we’re house hunting, but since it’s really hard to plan for that I’ve been dream house decorating! Follow my Pinterest board here too see all my house ideas. All 483 of them.

We have a house in mind, but I’m still totally unresolved about the floors. The floors in the house are mostly brick. They look just like this.

whitehouse interiors brick floor

I really, really hate the brick look. It’s too much to use rugs to break it up. All the rooms with this kind of brick I’ve seen online so far are mostly neutral. The brick floor is the focus point. I want the brick floor to be ignored. I’m looking to make an eclectic living room. A little like Gilded Age meets neon.

I don’t know if it’s possible to bleach them to make them lighter? I’m thinking about covering them all with wood at this point. Any suggestions?

Alberta Ferretti 2013 Fall NYFW

I’ve never heart of Alberta Ferretti before, but I’m now a devotee. I’m loving her feminine flair for this Fall.

The standout piece to me is the gorgeous dark blue velvet dress. I cannot get over the detailing in the skirt. The pattern is so Art Deco.

Which look are you loving?

Updated: I Need Your Book Recommendations

Usually I do a reading goal that’s a number of books per year. Turns out that means I never read books more than 400 pages. I switched it up this year to close that loophole on myself. I can’t believe I’m closing a loophole in my plan for myself. This is serious, guys. So my plan was to read one book in each of the following categories. Some of these I’ve already read, so I’ve marked them off. The other ones are up for suggestion! Comment with your recommendations. I really need them.

  • SciFi:
  • Classic: Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
  • Young Adult:

How to Be a Hepburn in a Hilton World by Jordan Christy

How to Be a Hepburn in a Hilton World: The Art of Living with Style, Class, and GraceHow to Be a Hepburn in a Hilton World: The Art of Living with Style, Class, and Grace by Jordan Christy

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Great cover, terrible book. I really hated this one. If you want to learn etiquette, there are so many options now. Countless blogs and books. This should not be your guide. Period. It’s unrealistic and misinformed at best. Jordan suggests getting rid of TV because it doesn’t make you any smarter. That’s total b.s. and an easy excuse for mass stupidity. TV doesn’t make you anymore intelligent, but neither does reading unless your read or watch specific things. I’m learning the same things from Shahs of Sunset as I am from reading Pretty Little Liars. I agree with her on one major point; self-respect is crucial. Jordan’s idea of having self-respect is having no trust in yourself. I respect myself and my decisions. I’m going to wear what I feel comfortable in and if that happens to be the same thing Paris Hilton was wearing than oh well. I’m not basing my life off being the opposite of celebs. I’m going to base my life and behavior on what I think is right.

Oscar de la Renta 2013 Fall NYFW

I’m absolutely loving Oscar de la Renta’s 2013 Fall line.

The two ball gowns are made for a princess. Who else could pull those off? If Cinderella ended up in 2013 due to some horrible time experiment gone wrong, she would wear that blue Oscar de la Renta to the ball. And Prince Charming would have never forgotten what she looked like.

The real showstopper is the embroidered black dress. That would look amazing on the red carpet.

This Is One Ugly Cake

In an effort to be more domestic (ha!), I’ve been trying to learn how to bake and cook. I learned a lot of important things from this experience like not slam a soufflé-like object on the counter and my stand mixer is leaking grease. So that’s good.

Here’s what I attempted to make.

Green Tea Chocolate Cake

Here’s what I actually made.
